10 POSITIVE SUPERPOWERS UNLEASHED BY TRAVEL
Lets build a futuristic dream of a superhero called ‘The sustainable Be’ who unleashed superpowers for travellers and ensured eco-tourism and sustainability were not her kryptonite! Ok, ok that would truly be the dream but, whilst I work on making my superhero debut; green mask and cape included, let me entertain you with some of the superpowers that have taken possession of my soul by my globetrotting escapades!
1. Believe superpowers exist!
The most important superpower is believing in oneself and having the confidence and defiance to go out there and explore the world like a traveller. It’s not difficult, you just have to take the first step and the rest as they say is history! I was lucky and knew I was born to travel and see the world but after your first solo trip, the sense of achievement will empower you!
2. A heightened awareness of safety without loss of enjoyment
The world teaches you that not everything is as it seems. If something doesn’t go to plan then just move on and enjoy the rest of your travels. Don’t dwell on things and let them impact the rest of your trip. I had a great experience when I visited the Favelas of Rochina in Rio de Janeiro.
3. Antennae for sussing out little gems
One of my biggest superpowers is to have an affinity for finding cute little spots where the locals hang out! This usually means asking locals what they would do or stumbling upon places when exploring away from the tourist traps.
4. Recognising the impact of travel on the environment
For those who regularly read my posts, you will know this is top priority for me and my top tip, is to research hotels and their sustainability policies really well. I’m a fan of luxe Eco lodges and opt to be kind to the environment whilst allowing some much needed pampering!

5. Master Itinerary Builder
When it comes to planning, researching, tables and spreadsheets I’m as geeky as they come. Give me some fine stationery and some coloured pens and I’ll build you a technicolour travel itinerary brighter than the coat the man wore himself!!
6. Every trip can be completed by means of carry-on
Over the years, lets just say I’ve experimented with packing light and trying to get a two week getaway into a carry-on bag! I can well and truly report, I have perfected the art of two weeks in a carry on and supporting the local community at my destinations by using laundry and local amenities!
7. Scoping out locally sourced experiences
Supporting local and therefore using local and authentic experiences is something I always ensure I incorporate into trips as well as volunteering projects.
8. Education with regards to history and culture
I’m pretty sure one of the superpowers we all gain from travelling is increasing our knowledge and understanding of other cultures, locals and history, which helps enrich our daily lives and implement our education in everyday situations.

9. Learning the skill and art of capturing memories to treasure
Having built upon this over time, I can truly say that my photography has improved, well that’s what you guys have told me! Now I have decent memories that will not only live inside me but just in case I forget, I can refer back to my photographs. Additionally I’ve been lucky enough to be able to collab with professionals around the world who have helped capture some of those memories for me.
10. Adopt an open mind and attitude
One of my greatest qualities is that I travel with no misconceptions about a place. I never try and build a picture of a place in my head but adapt to whatever comes in my direction. Every locale is different and should be appreciated for what it is and not judged or compared.
Now superheroes, tell me all about your superpowers are below…

What a great list of superpowers!! I love building my itineraries too – so much fun!!
Bejal
BinnyThanks Binny! Itinerary planning is so exciting!
Cristina - Memories of the Pacific
It’s amazing what traveling can make you do, isn’t it?
I need to start doing more research on sustainable hotels. I’m very green on my every day life but it’s true that hotels lack many things I do every day like recycling. I hate to though everything on the same bin while I’m staying at a hotel.
Bejal
Cristina – Memories of the PacificActually there are a lot of hotels out there that are very sustainable and make a huge effort in reducing plastic waste. I do think research is key adn it takes a long time but all worth it in the end.
Simply Rasha
I need to master the art of packing light! My photography and creativity has gotten better with every holiday – at least, I think so ????
Bejal
Simply RashaHaha! Packing can be a tricky one! Your photos are definitely very lovely Rasha!

Some great superpowers you have here Bejal! Love finding out cute little places tucked away behind all the tourist traps. I totally agree that one should try and adapt to the culture and food – best way to experience a place.

You are such a great writer, Bejal. I am always amazed about how much of the world, you have seen! One question.. How do you afford it? To be able to travel so much, we do need to make money to “explore the world like a traveller” 😀
Love from Louise
Bejal
louiseloveslondonThankyou Louise, that’s very kind of you to say. I do some invites/sponsored travel as well as a lot of solo travel, but I do also work full time in oncology research. Yes exploring the world like a traveller is key! Thanks for reading and stopping by Louise xx
Sarah
What a fabulous list of superpowers! I have the same goal as you, to be the eco-friendly sustainable green-caped super hero, haha! But really, I think that’s the ultimate superpower we can all aspire to. In the meantime, though, you’ve got a lot of other great superpowers under your belt. I strive to be a master itinerary planner too, but somehow things never go to plan… lol!
Bejal
SarahYes great minds and all that! That would most definitely be the dream! I’m a little OCD too so helps with tables and graphs and all things itinerary in Excel!
