Top Tips on How to Select & Book Hotels
- Location: This really is key. Ensure you pick a hotel/hotels which are not too far away from the area(s) you want to end up visiting. Otherwise you could end up paying a lot out for transportation to your chosen daily activities.
- Perfect Hotel: We know there is no such things as ‘perfect’ but compromise is realistic. Make a table of the pros and cons of the hotels you are interested in and way each one up Indic individually based on what you will be doing and where you’ll be doing it. Also it will help you niche down on what exactly you can do without and your ‘must-do’ items.
- Boutique Hotels:: Try and opt for boutique, locally owned hotels as opposed to large scale chains. the service and experience is always more authentic and the recommendations are usually from local people. This also means our money is going back to the local economy.
- Regular Hotel Bookers:, why not join up to programs like Booking.com so you can take advantage of discounts and special rates. Also if you book through British Airways, you’ll earn Avios points.
- Conscious travellers: should ask the hotels for their sustainability policy as this will help tremendously in decision making. as to how these hotels are working in conserving the environment and local surroundings.
- Be-lavie Hotel Booking Methods: include: Cool Stays, Mr & Mrs Smith, Travelzoo (great weekly deals), Michelin Guide (foodie stays) & Booking.com
- Hotel Direct Bookings: Occasionally going straight through the hotel can be a good thing as they can provide discounts over s certain night stay but also throw in extras like breakfast, complimentary use of club lounges, spa facilities and private transfers and even a city tour for orientation.
- Special Occasions: If you have a birthday, anniversary, honeymoon whilst on your stay, make sure you let the hotel know as often you’ll be upgraded (based on availability) and/or you’ll get some special treats in your room such as chocolates, champagne or a fruit basket.
Be-lavie Tip: Hotels actively adopting a sustainability policy have been marked with an (S)

Love a good hotel list for some holiday inspo and I haven’t stayed in any of these! I love a smaller boutique hotel as well, every now and again I stray back to a big hotel chain and while I have a great time, it usually feels a bit….generic for my liking. You’ve also reminded me I need to get myself over to South America, a continent I have yet to discover!
Bejal
RachaelOh absolutely Rachael, the small boutique hotels are always so intimate with quirky touches. South America is incredible, you really must go but similarly Central America is also breath-taking! Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, how does one choose from these gorgeous hotels?. I would love to stay in the hotel in Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula – it looks like such a relaxing spot. Thanks for sharing these hotels! If I’m ever planning a trip to these locations I’ll reference this post 🙂

I don’t know how you manage to discover and stay at all these amazing hotels. Your roundup is extraordinary. I sometimes treat myself to a Leading Hotel of the World (if my budget permits). I wish I could stay at every hotel in your post.

TerriI love a spot of hotel research but with over 15 years of travel, I managed to get a long list of laces to stay! The Leading Hotels of the World are so beautiful aren’t they. A prefect treat.
