A PAIR OF ROMANTIC TRAVELLERS
This month’s romance and love based travel link up topic has had me thinking that one of the reasons why Dr C and I got together in the first place was because of our passion for travel and experiencing the cultures, foods, languages, flora and fauna around the world.
It will come as no surprise then that after only a few months of dating we went on our first city break to Amsterdam. Since then we’ve clocked up some serious air miles together and have actually visited over thirty five countries in ten years. Included in this travel jaunt romance has taken us from a plethora of city breaks to a sky high proposal, three honeymoons, umpteen extended conference/business trips, milestone birthdays abroad, a mammoth around the world trip and a mission statement to celebrate each wedding anniversary travelling!
Grab an insight into some of our favourite romantic jaunts and occasions we’ve marked as a couple since he asked, ‘will you be my girlfriend?’
A SKY HIGH PROPOSAL
Back in May 2009, following a conference in San Diego, Dr C and I headed to Las Vegas where he took me on a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. The pilot landed at the base of the Canyon where Dr C asked me to marry him and lets say the rest is history! Champagne in one hand and the canyon before us we thought of a life together starting with a destination wedding. How romantic is that? I’ll tell you how, that’s brownie point romantic!
THREE LONG HAUL HONEYMOONS
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances the destination wedding couldn’t take place so we tied the knot in a very small quaint ceremony in my hometown and jetted off to New York on our mini-moon to start life as man and wife together. Little did we know that Dr C’s mum had planned us another honeymoon in Bali, where we were originally going to get married! This on top of our epic Thailand adventure, which was the honeymoon we were taking a little later.
MISSION STATEMENT: SPEND ANNIVERSARIES ABROAD
We decided that each anniversary must be spent abroad and over the past eight years we have celebrated the day we publicly declared our love for one another in the presence of family and friends, in style. Our trips have included, Istanbul, Bali, Florence, Vietnam, Cambodia, Valencia, Bruges, to mention a few.
THE BIGGEST TRAVEL ADVENTURE TO DATE
A couple of years ago we ticked off many destinations on our bucket list and seriously saved up on annual leave to get 6 weeks to travel the world! By that I mean we bought a couple of around the world tickets and literally racked up air miles and jet lag (which only occurred when we returned luckily!) Our mutual once in a lifetime trip saw us go from London to Hong Kong, Singapore, east Coast Australia, North and South Island New Zealand, French Polynesia, Los Angeles and back home. The most exhilarating weeks of my life and celebrated my birthday on the Great Barrier Reef, Christmas in Bora Bora and New Year in Beverly Hills.
PARTNER IN TRAVEL CRIME
My favourite travel buddy in the whole wide world is undoubtedly Dr C. Not only do we share the same style and passion in our destination choices but he is also patient, calm, takes care of my hunger (or hanger should I say!!!) needs, always veers me towards the window seat on an aeroplane, helps carry my bags and more importantly knows his place as soon as we enter a hotel room. He grabs the bags and waits in the bathroom as I quickly snap some shots of the room! Yes he is a keeper! I know you know what I’m talking about blogger ladies and gents!! I reckon he probably loves me as I’m pretty sure he doesn’t go to these lengths just for fun!
MAKING LASTING MEMORIES
The most important thing about travelling with a loved one is the fact that you get to share all these special moments and memories with that person and that is just so darn romantic. I actually believe for us travelling helps us reconnect and give undivided time to each other, keeping the spark and romance alive in our relationship! Feel free to read all about things I rediscovered in Florence and my very personal account of our Flytographer shoot!

Angie Silver (@SilverSpoonLDN)
I love your sky high proposal and the fact that you pretty much take a honeymoon every year. I’m very much in favour of that too!
Bejal
Angie Silver (@SilverSpoonLDN)I think your gift to yourself for marrying the one you love should be a honeymoon every year, after all you deserve it! Lol!!
luxybeartravels
Very nice! Such amazing trips. My husband is my travel partner in crime as well. We can’t always go on a trip for our wedding anniversary due to work but we have always give ourselves the gift of traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday rather than forcing the family obligation bit. It’s been wonderful!
Bejal
luxybeartravelsThankyou so much. I totally understand the whole family obligation thing as well and I’m sure its a lot stress free when you’re celebrating together on your travels.
Cristina - Memories of the Pacific
What a beautiful story, you’ve traveled so much together! My husband and I love traveling too, we went to San Francisco together when we had only been dating for a few months and we still travel as much as we can although most of out trips take place in Spain 🙂
Bejal
Cristina – Memories of the PacificThankyou Cristina. I would absolutely love to travel to San Francisco! Spain is so beautiful with so many places to see and your photos always look so amazing of the places you visit.

the Curious Pixie
Oh how lovely! This post reminded me of my life pre kids. We used to spend our wedding anniversaries abroad too, not anymore! Love the fact that you ended up with three honeymoons x
Bejal
the Curious PixieI’m sure you have equally fantastic holidays with your girls, infact I know you! Personally I think honeymoons should be an annual thing I reckon!
Joannda
I am definitely hoping we can celebrate our anniversary somewhere abroad too – I’ll have to start thinking about where #1 should be!! We tend to try and go away for birthdays too though so I guess we’ll have to wait and see 🙂 I’m glad you got to go to both Bali and Thailand for your honeymoon in the end! It sounds similar to ours except we got married in Thailand and honeymooned there and in Bali after 🙂
Bejal
JoanndaWow a wedding in Thailand must have been amazing?! Bali is such a honeymoon destination. So relaxing and I have my gingers crossed you get away for every anniversary. It’s just the best way to celebrate!
Quirky Little Planet
I loved this post! The bit about your husband waiting in the bathroom while you take photos of the room made me laugh as I usually say to my husband “don’t mess anything up until I’ve taken a photo!” haha.
Also your 6 week adventure sounds similar to one I did. We did 7 weeks travelling and went from London to Singapore to Australia to New Zealand (North & South) to Fiji to Los Angeles and back home again in time for Christmas 🙂
Bejal
Quirky Little PlanetThankyou so much for your comment. You know it’s got to be done to get those all important perfect photos and they don’t mind really! I try and do mine super quickly but now he’s like I’ll just wait in the bathroom!!
Oh your trip sounds fab, we went to similar places but looks like we substituted Fiji for Bora Bora. I’d love to go to Fiji one day and do a little more of Oz!
Monal
Ahhh loved reading this post Bejal especially as I’ve just come back from Belgium with my other half 🙂 I love how many places you’ve visited and hope we follow in a similar path during our relationship! Big shout out to the partners of bloggers… my boyfriend can’t eat or drink until I’ve snapped up some pictures. Bless him! Patience is a beautiful quality haha!
Bejal
MonalThankyou Monal for stopping by. You must make it a priority to travel if you enjoy it. Oh absolutely, the insta husbands/partners of the world are amazing for their patience and should be credited in their own right! They deserve a medal too!
