CELEBRATE THE SEASON OF FLOWERS AT POLO BAR, MAYFAIR
I recently visited the very swish, Polo Bar at The Westbury in Mayfair to sample their aptly named Season of Flowers cocktails. One of my blogger friends Binny from Binny’s Food and Travel was collaborating with the bar to host a table of her favourite bloggers to celebrate these floral cocktails.
The Polo Bar is super chic and no wonder it’s an award winner with interiors inspired by Art Deco design with Swarovski Crystal fittings and Fendi finishing touches. The decor is classy, neutral and somehow also understated but simultaneously luxurious. The bar oozes glamour and is situated perfectly at The Westbury Hotel, part of the Luxury Hotels of the World Collection.
The bar has a fantastic list of cocktails and has been recognised as Best Hotel Bar by the London Club and Bard Awards in 2017 and has won the accolade of London’s Bar of the Year in 2014 by The London Lifestyle Awards.
Inspired by the Royal Chelsea Flower show, the Polo bar has put together an ensemble of three floral cocktails, which are served with their mini me counterparts, ideal to share with a friend. Each cocktail is named after a typical English bloom.
We all took our comfy sofa and soft cushioned stools as we waited patiently for the cocktails to arrive.
SEASON OF FLOWERS COCKTAILS
The main show of the evening (apart from the fine conversation on this girls only bloggers evening!) there were three floral inspired creations to choose from, Gem Marigold, Viola Mule and Dianthus. Now if like me you love blooms, but sometimes find it difficult to visualise what they may look like, I’ve added a snap to accompany the cocktail to give you an idea of how these beautifully prepared and tasting drinks were inspired by their respective flowers.
Gin, Campari, freshly squeezed pomegranate blended and topped with a sweet but delicate pineapple foam. The flavour is quite subtle citrus, delivering a sharp, bordering on fruity, after taste.
This botanical blend is a twist on the classic Moscow Mule, containing blue pea flower infused vodka. This is said to create an aroma that marries well with the zesty base and brings out the spicy ginger.
If you are a rum lover, it’s possible this one could be for you. This cocktail is very light, subtle yet delicately fruity, containing beautifully balanced dark rum, rosebud tea and peach.
So, which one was my favourite? Well, that would have to be the Viola Mule, because of my penchant for most things ginger tasting!
Accompanying our cocktails were beautiful wooden grained boards containing canapés created by the very talented, Michelin starred, Alyn Williams at The Westbury. The Canapés were small morsels of flavour and went well with our cocktail selection. They included…
ARRANCINI WITH TRUFFLE & CHEESE BEIGNETS
RICOTTA ON A BRITTLE CRISP
The Season of Flowers are beautifully unified botanical concoctions, are simply some of the most beautiful cocktails I’ve ever tried. Subtle tastes combined with the rather attractive aesthetics makes for a cocktail that would appeal to all tastes and outfits.
When cocktails look this beautiful, it’s just so hard to resist a taste of all three. But lucky for us, in the usual signature style of The Polo Bar, you get a mini-me of each cocktail.
Just when you think you couldn’t get any more floral attention, the evening ended with each of us being presented a beautiful mini hand tied bouquet. Now that’s what you want to show your partners when you get home from a night out!
This was my first visit to the Polo Bar and the atmosphere and surroundings were lovely with attentive and friendly staff and of course the company was second to none! It was lovely to meet you Angie, Emma, Priyam, Lauren. Gita and of course a huge thankyou to Binny for organising.
We were guests of The Polo Bar at The Westbury and as always all views, opinions and photography are my own unless otherwise stated and therefore remain a copyright of be-lavie.
