POMELO & ROCKET: AN INNOVATIVE VEGAN DINNER CLUB
One rainy Sunday afternoon, I tucked into a delicious three course vegan menu, which was presented beautifully, packed a complete punch in terms of flavour and it was delivered to my doorstep with a smile! Let me introduce you to Pomelo & Rocket, the good folk of Leicester!

Disclosure: Pomelo & Rocket delivered us their Pan-Asian three course dinner in exchange for this review. Please note all opinions and views are my own and honest therefore remain a copyright of be-lavie. Photography must not be reproduced without prior permission from be-lavie.
Who are Pomelo & Rocket?
Pomelo & Rocket are a Leicester based vegan catering and delivery company that Miranda Booth started in March 2019 based at The Mill by Graffwerk on Frog Island in Leicester.
During their time at The Mill Pomelo & Rocket served tasty breakfasts, lunches, cakes and coffees, hosted themed supper clubs, served tacos at Nine Bar & The Cookie and gained a following through their appetising weekly specials, which were as diverse as vegan prawn tom yum soup and spinach and ricotta cannelloni. I can one hundred percent vouch for their delicious food having visited The Mill on a number of occasions to tuck into their food, one of my personal highlights being a black bean and sweet potato burrito with spicy salsa!

Currently the team consists of Miranda, who is the head chef, Talitha, who takes care of the marketing and photography and Rosie who I believe is the cake baker extraordinaire!

During the testing times of this years lockdown, Pomelo & Rocket started delivering picnics to customers across Leicester & Leicestershire filled with vegan sausage rolls, quiches, salads, dips, cakes and bread. The picnic boxes were packed full of flavours and inspired by cuisines from around the world. They were also showcasing produce from local suppliers like Kind Bakes By Rosie, Yellow House Bakery and The Salad Garden. A great initiative to help support local and showcase home produced fare.

Pomelo & Rocket Dinner Club
Following the success of the picnic boxes Pomelo & Rocket have moved away from the cafe at The Mill and decided to focus on food delivery and event catering.
Over the past few weeks Pomelo & Rocket have started offering their customers a three course meal delivery for them to heat and eat at home. These deliveries have given customers a chance to enjoy tasty gourmet plant-based food in the comfort of their own homes. All it takes is a minimal amount of preparation in terms of warming and you’re ready to go.
Recently I was lucky enough to receive an Asian themed plant-based three course dinner from Pomelo & Rocket, have a look at the menu below for the Pan-Asian inspired dinner menu.

The meal comes beautifully packaged with paper or reusable containers, and with accompanying instructions on how to prep certain parts of the meal, including how long to steam a certain item for or how long something may need in the oven or microwave. The instructions are very precise and worth following for perfection! I’m a very precise scientist so followed them down to a T!!

To start, we feasted on the Satay peanut crusted cauliflower popcorn skewers on a bed of perfectly steamed pak choi. Remember when I said you should follow the instructions?

Well the pak choi was cooked to perfection and the cauliflower was smothered in the crunchiest yet flavoursome satay.

Moving onto the main event, a perfect sweet umami tofu in a spicy soy sauce accompanied a dome of sesame jasmine rice.

The spicy sauce was thick and sticky, and the rice mopped it up well. As always with Pomelo & Rocket, the tofu was perfectly cooked in the centre and packed full of flavour, they truly have mastered the art of cooking tofu!

Oh and your main comes with a side salad of cucumber, watermelon, spring onion, coriander, mint and lime. One of the freshest salads I’ve had with a great medley of Asian flavours.

Finally, the meal ended with a white chocolate and green tea ganache with a dark cherry compote. A lovely mix of flavours which came in a pot so just need to be turned out. Delicate flavours to end a richly flavoured yet light meal.

Just to add the meal came with a pot of coriander and dressing to pour over the rice and tofu if so desired.

Final Thoughts
From personal experience I have always loved the food that Pomelo & Rocket have made, even though I am not vegan and am in complete awe of their creativity and how they manage to produce such flavours with plant based ingredients. It’s complete wizardry and innovation but yet so unpretentious and non-fussy. If you’re based in the Leicestershire area, I’d encourage you to give the dinner club a go one night and give the kitchen a little rest! I assure you, I don’t think you’ll miss the meat!
