Willowfen Retreat is a beautiful duck egg blue Shepherd’s hut accessed via it’s own private gravel track and surrounded by a cute fenced garden with views across the most stunning Norfolk vista.
Willowfen Retreat run by Amanda Sedgwick, is beautifully appointed, decorated and maintained abode away from the main property where peace and tranquillity are a priority and a perfect base for exploring The Fens, The Wash and The Broads. Infact it’s a fantastic base to explore the surrounding market towns and cities on day trips as well as maybe spending some down time relaxing in your own private oasis.
The pet friendly space means you don’t have to leave your poochie pals behind as there is plenty of space within the fenced garden for them to stretch their legs and stay safe.
The Shepherd’s Hut
Saunter up the three rope-lined banistered steps through the garden and enter your compact but bijoux living quarters. Before you, your eyes will be drawn to a window with views into the field where Coco and little Palomino Candy, the owner’s Ponies gracefully wander and below the window you’ll see two blue upholstered chairs with cushions separated by a vase of colourful florals.
Immediately you’ll notice the dug egg blue colours sheme is incorporated seamlessly inside the hut intertwined in soft furnishings in the form of checks, animal prints and complimenting hues including in the fabrics, kitchen crockery and linens.
The bed spans the entire width of the right side adorned with a window and shutters, extra blankets for colder times as well cute cushions, alarm clock, Television and two fluffily grey bath robes, for your comfort. Cosy vibes galore. There is also space to store your luggage and unwanted items in the under bed cupboard.
Move into the kitchen space, and as well as all cutlery, glassware, crockery cooking utensils, a selection of teas, coffees, condiments and pans, there’s a microwave, 2 ring integrated induction hob and a fridge. All washing and cleaning products are also provided.
For those cooler days you’ll find a hobbit stove complete with complimentary eco-friendly coffee logs to burn. Candles and cute farm artefacts decorate and make up the cute interiors of the Shepherd’s hut retreat.
Additionally, there are DVD’s, board games, books and lots of information about things to do in the area to help you make the most of your trip.
Through the kitchen space is the en-suite bathroom featuring a shower, basin, WC with plenty of soft towels and a range of toiletteries included.
The Garden
Wooden sunlounges with cushions, reclining chairs, wooden garden seating with shade, a barbecue for you to enjoy as well as a classy gas fire pit. The garden is interspersed with pretty potted fresh plants making this the perfect place to relax after a long day exploring the surroundings. A true haven that you can call solely your own during your stay.
You also benefit from having private parking beside the Shepherd’s hut making things very convenient for loading and unloading of items from your days out!
Sustainable Efforts
The host’s effort to be green didn’t go unnoticed as food products are sourced fresh and locally with the use of eco-friendly clearing and washing products. Instead of wood coffee logs are provided for burning. There is minimal use of plastic products and recycling bins are provided adjacent to the hut. Additionally, any waste water from the shepherd’s hut was fed to a cess pit system located towards the back of the garden.
Lasting Impressions
A while after you check-in to the property, Amanda adds the personal touch by dropping by to say hi and ensuring everything is OK, She also leaves instructions to contact incase there’s anything you may need during your stay.
A really nice touch is Amanda’s welcome basket which includes, bread, butter, jam, fresh eggs, a bottle of milk, biscuits, hot chocolate complete with marshmallows and Prosecco to help you settle in.
Willowfen Farm truly is a retreat but doesn’t lack the homely feel where attention to detail is impeccable to ensure a comfortable and memorable stay. Having breakfast in the garden facing the bird table, listening to the early morning bird song, seeing the chucks wandering around the garden, the bees buzzing around the small bee home and the little pond and reeds surrounding the hut simply lives up to all expectations of a magical relaxing getaway where time slows down and a real appreciation for nature is a priority.
