THE EVASON SIX SENSES SPA HUA HIN: A HOTEL REVIEW
Last Updated on 29th March 2021 by Bejal
*** The Evason Six Senses Spa Hua Hin is now Blue Lotus Hua Hin ***
The hotel is still of a similar standard, style in decor and services it offers however it no longer part of the Evason and Six Senses groups. The plant-based food in the restaurants is still developed by the chefs at the on-site Blue Lotus Cookery School
Sawadee Ka! Welcome to the Evason Six Senses Spa, Hua Hin.
Nestled between lush vegetation between two fishing villages, on the coastal town of Pranburi lies The Evason Six Senses Spa Hua Hin. A luxury resort in a tranquil location surrounded by green palm trees, a beachfront outdoor pool and the sound of the ocean delivered by the Gulf of Siam. Lets get up close and personal with this peaceful hideaway…
A Serence Entrance
Arriving at the Evason is quite a long awaited pleasure following the 3.5 hour drive from Bangkok airport. After being dropped off at the parking area, you’re transferred via a golf buggy. On arrival at reception your check-in is sorted swiftly whilst you’re treated to a cool towel compress and a lemongrass based welcome drink.
Abodes
Rooms come very comfortable at The Evason with all the mod cons and are decorated in a natural simple style with focus on the large bed with a beautifully draped mosquito net.
The studio rooms/suites feature balconies overlooking the Gulf of Siam or the lush garden vegetation where you can sit on day beds or dark wood furniture and sip on your morning coffee or wake up to the song of the varied biodiverse population of birds attracted to the property.
The bathroom comes fully tiled in a shade of stone complete with rain shower, fluffy curtains, natural cotton robes and the Evason’s own brand of Shampoo, soaps and moisturiser made from locally grown lemongrass.
If you’re after more private style of hideaway holiday, be sure to book the villas which feature a private pool, a private sunken bath surrounded by a lotus pond and your very own sun loungers. They also host an outdoor and indoor bathroom for your convenience as well as being the largest rooms the resort offers.
All rooms come with satellite TV, CD player, a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, fresh drinking water purified on site, is delivered twice a day to each room and there is also a turn down service to set you up for a tranquil night’s sleep.
Wining & Dining
There is no shortage of dining options at Evason with tastes to suit even the fussiest of eaters.
The Restaurant
Breakfast is served here from 07:00 onwards and is an array of international fresh delights.
There are stations ranging from fruits, fresh juices, pancakes, breads, cereals, smoothies, conserves, Asian style breakfast noodles and delicacies as well as cooked to order items. These include eggs any way you like, pancakes and waffles as well as a Thai kitchen where you can pick your ingredients for a traditional breakfast option. Teas and hot drinks can be ordered to your table.
Kieng Sah
This lily pond surrounded authentic Asian cuisine dining options was amongst one of my favourites, one for its Asian curries but secondly for the romantic location and setting. Dimly lit candles and fairy lights shimmer all around you as the light orange hues shed small amounts of light on your Asian specialities cooked to perfection. I recommend the yellow green curry with sticky rice.
Coast
This is Evason’s answer to beachfront Mediterranean cuisine serving fresh pasta, pizza and all things not Thai! The food tastes like it’s never been removed from the Mediterranean and the presentation compares to any fine dining establishment I’ve dined in in Europe. We enjoyed a Christmas Eve nine course set meal including an amuse bouche, palette cleansers and a pre-dessert. The Evason also stock a great wine list, which pair the cuisine beautifully.
The Pool
For the pool side fans, you don’t need to leave the sun lounger as the poolside bar serves light snack and refreshments. There is also a noodle bar on select days and what I would call an ice-cream booth.
The Bar
The Bar serves a whole array of international and local dishes and an assortment of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day. It was also one of my favourite work spots in the afternoons, siting on one of the scatter cushioned sofas, with banana milkshake in hand with maybe a couple of vegetable spring rolls dipped in plum sauce.
The Wine Cellar
If you’re a bit of a wine connoisseur, fear not there is an extensively stocked wine cellar where you can sample one of the many choices available. I was glad to see my favourite Mendozan Argentinian Malbec on the menu.
Activities
Sports
If you like your outdoor activities worry not. There are tennis courts, bicycle hire, archery, Thai boxing, volleyball, which you pay a tiny fee for but also the yoga and meditation sessions are complimentary and undertaken within the tranquillity of Six Senses Spa.
Pool
You cannot miss the large beachfront pool, which has been split into sections with sun loungers occupying all directions for you sun worshippers. It is in close proximity to all the dining options and looks out onto the Gulf of Siam towards the front of the hotel.
In addition to this pool, there is also a children’s pool area near the tennis courts to keep your little people entertained on site.
Excursions
Adjacent to reception, housed in a pretty open air office is the Excursions team. If you haven’t booked any excursions prior to arrival worry not as ethically sourced experiences are offered here. Choose between the Hua Hin discovery tour, Sam Roi Yod and Kilburi National Parks, Wildlife experiences as well as more physical offerings. The staff can also help you hire a taxi for the day if you have prepared your own itinerary and don’t fancy driving or trying your chances of riding your own motorcycle around the area.
Kids Club
Mummies and daddies can take a few child-free hours off if they wish as the kids club has a whole host of activities to keep the mini me’s entertained for hours. It’s also located close to the children’s pool area and the resident giant turtles, Goldy is pictured below.
Shuttle Service
The hotel has a complimentary shuttle service to a beautiful beach about 10 minutes away called Khao Kalok. It’s absolutely stunning and you can book to do an array of water sports there however be warned of the jelly fish if you’re planning to go for a swim. We spotted a few in the shallow waters.
Just to mention, there is also a gym if you feel the need for a workout and for all you book worms, the Evason has a small air conditioned library with a selection of books and computers.
Six Senses Spa
Using all-natural techniques, The Six Senses Spa offers a relaxing menu of meditation sessions, massage therapies and detox programmes. Specialist programs and wellness activities are also on offer for those wanting to kick-start their well-being routine.
Dr C and I booked a number of couple’s treatments including the silk facial, Indian head massage, traditional massage and oriental massage. The Six Senses Spa is a pure relaxation haven being surrounded by lily ponds and lush vegetation. The perfect place to experience the Six Senses transportation into another dimension and being awakened by the gong of the therapist that is so synonymous to the brand.
Sustainability
I’m sure you’ve cottoned on to the fact that I hand-picked The Evason for its Social Responsibility and Sustainability programme. The hotel is pretty much self-sufficient with herbs and vegetables grown on site, glasses made from recycled plastic and a whole host of environmentally friendly benefits. I was so impressed with the sustainability program which you can read all about in this post, Evason Hua Hin: Sustainability & Social Responsibility.
Blue Lotus Plant-Based Cookery School
Based at the Evason is the renowned plant-based education and cookery school, Blue Lotus. They have a whole host of cookery classes and education programmes that guests can book, which are hands on and undertaken in a professional kitchen with a chef and instructors. They additionally hold classes for professional chefs who want to broaden their plant-based cuisine knowledge and aptitude. There is a blog post to follow on Blue Lotus and my cookery class experiences here. Blue Lotus also are a developmental kitchen who have a range of their dishes available to order from menus at The Coast and Bar.
Boutique
Be sure to pay a visit to the boutique who stock locally made produce such as beautiful beach wear for men, women and children as well as jewellery, shoes, handbags, gifts, sprays and lotions. A lot of the items have been hand-picked as collaborations between new and upcoming local designers who source materials ethically from within the community. I purchased a beautiful hand embroidered pink and white sun dress.
Final Thoughts
A stunning retreat style wellness hideaway located 40 minutes from the town of Hua Hin. A total oasis of calm and serenity sprinkled with luxury in the form of outstanding food, amenities, service, stunning surroundings and spa and wellness facilities.
