The Gresham Aparthotel
Located on the corner of Market Street and Belvoir Street, in one of the most iconic spots in Leicester, stands the newly renovated Gresham Building. Known to once be a Leicestershire constitution, The Gresham Aparthotel is now housed in the ex-Fenwick’s department store building.
Built during the Victorian times, in the 1880’s The Gresham has been a two-year, £17 million project in the making by developer Aimrok Holdings, where the Grade II listed Victorian building has been transformed into a 121 room luxury, contemporary styled serviced apartments known as The Gresham Aparthotel. Think neutral hues, modern artworks, airy spaces, perfectly formed kitchens, bright white en-suite facilities per room including a fitness room in the basement for workout enthusiasts complete with showers and additionally a laundry room for the exclusive use of guests. Stay a night, a week or longer, this stunning property will soon have you wooing with its charm.
The Gresham Aparthotel can be accessed via a double-faced front via Market Street and upon entering the rattan light shades, low yellow lighting and foliage will overwhelm you with a feeling of calm and relaxation transporting you to the indoor-outdoor garden vibes of South America.
An Inviting Entrance
The entrance and lobby is shared with The Black Iron Social Restaurant and Bar which gives a lovely welcoming feeling with some comfy seating and alcoves and shelves to the left, where the eye naturally leads onto a discreet hotel front-desk. Following a swift checking in process and friendly, intuitive front desk staff, the scene is set to head up to the rooms. The original Fenwick’s staircase has been given a face-lift with some grey toned paint, and you’ll probably remember this as where you’d head up near the beauty counters. There is also a lift.
Rooms are spread over three floors including the following categories; standard, superior, inner, deluxe studios and one bed apartments, which all sleep two, a two-bed apartment which sleeps four and also a one bedroom apartment with terrace with stunning views over the city.
Deluxe Studio Suite Tour
Room 305 faces out onto the historic Market Street and is located on the third and top floor providing a spacious apartment space for two people.
The open plan space has a kitchenette with ceramic hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, a sink and washing up area, space for food preparation and crockery and pans provided. There is also a bistro table and chairs to enjoy food and maybe even doubles up as a workspace.
The sofa and living area is cosy and comfy with complementing hues of cusions, a TV on a freestanding gas cabinet as well as contemporary cluster coffee table.
Moving into the bedroom area, there is a clear and defined shift in space with a king bed, white linens and golden cushions, bright yellow bed-side lamps on darkwood tables and tile-look wallpaper above the beds. Artwork is quite modern and ties in the interiors well.
The clothing storage is an open rack space with plenty of hangers provided leading onto the shower room equipped with double cubicle rain shower, a vanity sink and loo. Fresh white fluffy towels and a starter kit of The White Company Noir toiletries.
There is also a safe for valuables, hairdryer, ironing board and iron as well as USB sockets which are handy for charging electricals and high speed WIFI.
Views are of the surrounding Market street, Belvoir Street and Bowling Green street for the outer side rooms,
For fitness-loving guests the aparthotel has a fitness suite on the basement level with running machine, fixed weights and dumbbells which is exclusively for their use.
Wining & Dining
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is served in the onsite Black Iron Restaurant and Bar on the ground floor. It’s perfect for social gatherings, delicious food including lunch and dinner menus, thirst quenchingly impressive cocktails as well as great satisfying bar food. The restaurant prides itself on showcasing the best in local produce open from 07:30 to 01:00 daily.

The Gresham Aparthotel is also very well located and within a stone’s throw from the independent bars and eateries of Leicester City Centre, St. Martin’s Square, The Highcross Shopping Centre, The Curve Theatre, The Phoenix Independent Cinema as well as The Tigers Rugby Ground, The King Power Football Stadium and a short taxi ride from the Riders Basketball stadium.

The Gresham has been home to two Leicester institutions in the past, including the more recent closure of the well known department store, Fenwicks.
