Leicester City Centre Hotels

The Grand Hotel

Built by local architects between 1897 and 1898, the hotel was designed for its sheer luxury including it’s European Renaissance style frontage which resembles a ‘wedding cake’ layer! It was known throughout the country and most prominently in the Midlands as the home of the elite English Society.

Fast forward to present day, the hotel has seen a £900,000 refurbishment and is now managed by the Ascott Limited under it’s ‘Unlimited Collection’ brand.

From the moment we stepped into The Grand Hotel through the entrance with the Art Deco font signage above, and into the lobby, their signature scent hits you as does the contemporary, neutral decor with gold accents and a scattering of hues in sage green, peach and a muted maroon.

Check-in is a swift affair then it’s time to take in the vintage glamour of this fine historic abode. There are 104 individually designed rooms which have a sympathetic blend of modern luxury and period features complete with the usual amenities like high speed wifi, air conditioning, irons and boards, tea and coffee making facilities.

We stayed in a spacious family room with sofabed that had great 180 degrees views out to Granby Street, Belvoir St and Rutland Street. The 300 foot room is very spacious with a King Bed,, designated seating area, open wardrobe, refreshments area, fridge and safe plusFlat screen television with Chromecasting function, desk and chairs.

The bathroom is finished with the same interior style carried through, fluffy white robes, slippers, towels and full size bath products by The Curious Botanist. The hotel amenities brand is fully sustainable backed up by certifications, transparency as well as initiatives and social responsibility projects.

Following a drink, enjoy lunch or dinner at the contemporary restaurant area, where sourcing local is a focus and they also offer afternoon tea in these grand surroundings.

Finally, whilst you’re at the Grand Hotel, you have to have a glimpse of the King’s Hall ballroom that once hosted grand soirees with people like Aviator Amy Johnson and Churchill. The King’s hall is hailed as being Leicester’s biggest historic ballroom and can accommodate upto 300 guests.

So many wonderful properties here! I especially love 1820 The Mansion, Qourn Country House Hotel, and the Horseshoe Cottage Farm. There are so many charming choices to choose from!

I agree with you Elena, these look very traditional – I too especially like the look of Horseshoe Farm. Thanks so much for reading, I hope you can visit Leicestershire one day and experience on of teh hotels!

All these hotels looks seriously incredible but I think my favorite is St. Martin’s Lodge. I love the blue tones a lot 🙂

Lina, that is one of my favourites due to the decor and where it’s located. Right in the very historical part of Leicester city centre and you’d be a stones throw away from the remains of King Richard III.

Great post! I’ve been trying to explore more of the UK this year, but I haven’t spent that much time in Leicestershire. I’ll definitely be putting it on my list after reading your post, these hotels look beautiful.

I stayed in both Winstanley House and The City Rooms last summer during a trip to Leicester and loved them both. Great list of hotels you’ve put together in the county!

You lucky thing, I stayed at both too and they’re so lovely. You can see the similarities as they’re owned by the same people. Thanks for stopping by and reading Krista

I love how you set this guide up! Not only by location, but by style of hotel. It’s crazy how much the style of accommodation can impact your trip. Stapleford looks right up my alley – great job!
