It is with great trepidation that the city of Leicester and Curve Theatre welcome, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s much acclaimed School of Rock. It’s time to get those leather jackets on and stomp away at this special six day performance hosted at the one and only Curve, where Andrew Lloyd Webber visited back in 2021 to give his support to the arts.

School of Rock -The Musical
Fans will already know this global hit musical is based on the renowned movie with Jack Black. Starring as lead in the stage show as wannabe rock star, Dewey Finn, is Jake Sharp who has previously performed the role in the West End. He is joined by love interest and headmistress, Rebecca Lock who plays Rosalie Mullins supported by a great adult cast.
School of Rock Incredible Performances
If you’re not already familiar with the story, Dewey, a failed wannabe rock star, is cast out by his dive-bar bandmates and winds up desperate for some cash. In order to earn some extra bucks he decides to pose as a substitute teacher at a prestigious preparatory school. Here he works his magic on a class of Straight-A students to create a rock band. The class is played by a group of 31 children, based from across the country, aged 13 and under who comprise a medley of the 12 members who make up the class on stage. Aside from Dewey, the most impressive performances are from the children who play amongst them, three electric guitars live on stage, sing and dance providing incredibly mind-blowing performances wowing the audience.

Amidst teaching these students and putting together a rock band, to partake in a rock competition, Dewey manages to fall for the school’s uptight, but beautiful, headmistress and leading lady, helping to discover the ‘wild child’ within herself. There are some very poignant scenes of both Dewey and Mullins as they get to know each other in a tender setting as they sit having a drink in a post work date.

School of Rock features 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, all original and from the movie itself plus the band of amazingly talented kids, singing and playing live on stage, every show invite the audience into a concert setting of their own. As you watch this Olivier award winning musical see the transformation of the studious class turn into hair-raising rock artists, each with its role within the School of Rock, this is all down to the relationship Dewey creates with each and every single one of them. He listens and delves into each character giving them a place where they feel heard and belong.
The final scenes shows the confidence and talent of the whole ensemble as they belt out incredible sing-a-long numbers such as ‘stick it to the man’ and invite the audience to join in on the evening, leaving everyone tapping along if not clapping and joining in with the lyrics at the tops of their voices to be heard over the electric guitars and bass.

School of Rock Awards
