TOP 10 ENGLISH STAYCATION BREAKFASTS
Last Updated on 27th March 2020 by Bejal
One of my favourite parts of a stay away from home, especially a staycation is the fact that I get to try breakfasts that are a little bit different from my usual cereal and tea combo! Yep, you guessed it, I’m rounding up some of my favourite staycation breakfasts enjoyed around the beautiful counties and cities of England.
LEICESTER, MIDLANDS
A staycation should always start at home and I have most certainly staycationed several times in Leicester. I stayed at The City Rooms but actually had brunch across the road at The Knight & Garter! Weekends here means bottomless mimosa brunches however, my favourite was the Eggs Benny and one of the best hollandaise sauces I’ve actually ever had! You can read all about it at Brunch at the Knight & Garter

MATLOCK, DERBYSHIRE
A stones throw away from the stunning Chatsworth House is a quaint little B&B that goes by the name of Holmefield Country Guest House. Individually designed rooms decorated in a classic style, some with a roll-top bath adorned with thick decadent fabrics run by a husband and wife team. It’s the perfect base to explore the surrounding Chatsworth Estate as well as a relaxing retreat in the country surrounded by fields with the odd steam train passing by daily. Breakfasts come two ways, either continental or fried and most definitely come served with a stunning view of the Derbyshire countryside.

SHAFTESBURY, DORSET
Dr C was born here and last year we stayed at The Grosvenor Arms during a family reunion. The town is made famous by Gold Hill, which featured in the Hovis advert many years ago directed by Ridley Scott. The Grosvenor Arms is an Inn lovingly decorated in a boutique style. Locally sourced ingredients and freshly cooked breakfasts make the perfect balance for a relaxing stay that has you set up to explore the area in style! If you fancy a peruse, have a read of The Grosvenor Arms, A stay at Shaftesbury’s oldest Inn.

STUDLAND, DORSET
Not so far from Shaftesbury lies the beautiful Studland beach. Our magical stay at The Pig on the Beach is quite the envy and if you ever go, you will know why! This is a special place think, cute, cosy, rustic and utterly charming with stunning views out onto Studland beach and the Isle of White in the distance. Our stay in the Bothy or Hobbit Hut as I call it was unbelievable (You can get the lowdown here about our plush snuggling at the Pig on the Beach) with breakfast being quite the affair. Fresh local ingredients including freshly laid eggs from the resident hens, which you can even boil yourself with your very own egg-timer! To date one of my favourite breakfasts ever!

PLYMOUTH, DEVON
My grandparents live in Plymouth, so I have known the city and surroundings for a while now but one of my recent favourite brunch and breakfast places is The Boston Tea Party located close to the famous Barbican area of the city, which overlooks the docks and the Hoe area featuring the famous red and white light house!

SHOREDITCH, LONDON
A mid-week stay at The Hoxton, Shoreditch meant I could mosey on down to The Hoxton Grill and have one or two of their Veggie Fry-ups! Seriously one of my favourite chilled, yet cool hotels with fab music, funky rooms and very good breakfast options! Oh and if you don’t fancy anything cooked, they also deliver coffee, fruit, a pastry and yoghurt to your door so you can enjoy it the moment you rise! KINGS CROSS, LONDON
One of my favourite Indian breakfast places has to be Dishoom. The branch in Kings Cross is my favourite and totally reminds me of an Indian railway with the interiors, however a lot more refined and up to date. My absolute favourite here is the masala beans with the masala omelette accompanied by tomato chutney, crispy bread and not forgetting the bottomless railway chai. Infact I even chose it as a birthday brunch when I was in London one year, Indian railway inspired birthday breakfast at Dishoom

For a fab avocado on toast topped with poached eggs, head down to Deansgate and check out Pot Kettle Black. Definitely a hip NYC vibe going on here and it’s located in the beautiful Barton Arcade.

MELTON MOWBRAY, LEICESTERSHIRE
Last summer, I stayed at Sysonby Knoll in the great Leicestershire countryside and enjoyed one of their delicious made to order breakfasts. All local products served fuss free and sourced locally from my neck of the woods! Keeping it totally in the vicinity with this one! If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in my neck of the woods then have a gander at rural relaxation at Sysonby Knoll hotel.

TARPORLEY, CHESHIRE
Willington Hall is a beautiful country retreat in the Cheshire countryside and the perfect place for a couple of nights R & R with some stunning spa treatments thrown in! Think lie-ins, country walks and peaceful nights sleep or maybe even a riding lesson or two! Anyway all this requires sustenance to set you up for the day and my recommendation would be eggs basically anyway or a full English with a suitable amount of English breakfast tea of course!
